Melaine & Mark | Engaged!

I met Melanie at David & Eboni's wedding last May, so I was thrilled when she contacted me to photograph her engagement pictures! We decided to meet at the Swan Pond in Boston Commons and had a blast roaming around finding places to take pictures. They are planning a destination wedding in the Bahamas! From what she has told me, it is going to be BEAUTIFUL! :)

For the Love of Music

If I wasn't meant to be a photographer, then I would have been a musician. Luckily for all of us, photography worked out ;)

Music has been with me every step of the way, I remember as a kid blasting my Mom's Michael Jackson records as I readied my self for the day, singing into the hair brush of course! Driving up the main street of downtown Annapolis, senior year of high school with my best friends, blasting Sir Mix A Lot, "I Like Big Butts" and dancing like crazy people. Yes, I was that person ... lol, what can I say, I'm a dork! In college, it was Coldplay's album, "Parachutes," which kept me relaxed and sane those long nights in the darkroom.

But I will always remember the moment I was introduced to Nina Simone. I was setting up my senior thesis for my BFA, it was a audio/visual installation about domestic violence, and this guy I kinda knew, walks in to check it out. After experiencing the installation he said, "here ... you need to hear this". It was Nina, singing, "Four Women", her deep voice filled with melancholy and paired with lyrics which portrayed deceptive love and loss. Goose bumps ran up my arms and I was hooked.

So, what's the point of this blog post, I mean really, I am a wedding and portrait photographer, why am I rambling on (hello, Led Zeppelin)? The point is two of my loves have collided and recently I find myself photographing a lot of great bands and musicians. Because of which I have decided to launch a secondary blog dedicated to the images I capture along my musical travels.

I was so excited and honored to be Renee and Ben's wedding photographer! You see, Ben and I were friends in high school and although we lost touch through the years, so it was awesome that he and Renee thought of me to photograph their wedding :) Ok, now I know I've said before "oh, they are so in love ..." but ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?! These two are freaking CRAZY in love and it made my day so much easier!

They held their wedding at the Ocean Cliff Hotel in beautiful Newport, RI. The ceremony began as the sun was setting, over looking the water, surrounded by their closets family and friends. Renee & Ben's wedding day was truly one filled with elegance and romance. Enough of my rambling though, on to the pictures!

Lindsay & Erik were married at Kelly Chapel in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts. I've got one word for them ... GORGEOUS ... seriously, these two were crazy beautiful and crazy in love! After their ceremony we crossed over the foot bridge to Old Yarmouth Inn where Lindsay & Erik were greeted with emotional speeches, endless dancing, and delicious cupcakes! On to the pictures!!!

It's all in the family!

I had so much fun photographing this wedding, and yes, I am bias being that it was a family affair!!! Nora and Dave had one of the ONLY sunny days yet in June (if you live in Boston, lol, you know what I am talkin' about!) for their wedding day, and it was AWESOME. I am speechless when it comes to David & Eboni! They are full of love and joy, and you just can't help but to smile and be happy in their presence. Their wedding day was BEAUTIFUL, barely a cloud in the sky, warm and filled with love. Eboni & David held their ceremony at West Medford Congregational Church in Medford, MA where David's father married them in front of their entire congregation, friends, and family; it was breath-taking. After the ceremony we headed down the street to Arlington Town Hall for the reception where Eboni & David were met with some really heart felt speeches from their parents, family, and friends. On to the pictures!!!

Seville | Spain 2009

Home to the LARGEST cathedral in the WORLD, Seville is a popular tourist spot. My only advice is don't take a guided tour. We made this mistake, and after a 4 hour bus ride (there and back, totally 8 hours in a freakin' bus), only had 2 hours to visit with this beautiful city. The cathedral is 900 years in the making and is still not FINISHED! I am not sure I have the right words to describe how amazing it was to walk though a cathedral that held so much history, so instead of talking about it, lets see some pictures!

Ronda | Spain 2009

Hands down, Ronda was the best little city we visited. It took about an hour to climb the Serranía de Ronda mountains from Marbella to Ronda, but it was well worth it! Ronda is divided by a 400 foot canyon, the El Tajo, and the views surrounding the gorge are just breathtaking! But enough talk, on to the pictures!

I was crazy about alley-ways and door fronts on this trip!

Puerto Banús

I have never seen so many Lamborghinies or Ferraris in one area before, oh and the Yachts were huge! Puerto Banús is definitely a playground for the rich!

Marbella & Malaga

We saved the end of the week to tour Marbella & Malaga, by this time we had worked out a way to site see during their siesta and then shop once the markets opened up again. As you will see from the pictures, I was in love with the alleyways and churches!

I just liked how the light was hitting the palm trees in this photo...

You'll see a common theme in these pictures are alleyways and churches, what can I say, they were just so beautiful!

The only complaint I have is that vegetarian fare was hard to find, so you can see why I was excited to see this...!

Bull Fighting | Marbella, Spain

Who doesn't love to vacation!? This past week I traveled to the Costa Del Sol, it was a first time over-seas trip for me and I LOVE EVERY SECOND! We stayed in Marbella, Spain and our first full day there we decided to do as the Spaniards and see a bull fight. As a spectator, this was a hard thing to watch and I left feeling sick to my stomach. However as I hid behind my camera, I was able to see this cultural custom in a different way.

Melissa and Shawn's wedding was on a cold, but beautiful day in November. When meeting with clients, I always ask what their story is; how did they meet, fall in love, and of course how he/she "pop the question". What I love about Melissa & Shawn's story was that everything they told me shared a common theme ... family ... and just how important they all are. This totally came through during their wedding and it was awesome to be able to share their moments with them!

Holmes' Family Portraits

Last week I had the chance to meet up with the Holmes' in Boston Public Garden for some family portraits! They traveled all the way from Alaska to attend Jennifer & Mark's wedding which I photographed 2 weekends ago. David is from Boston, so he wanted to grab some shots of his family with the beautiful New England foliage and the Boston backdrop. I had a blast spending the morning with them and it was indeed a spectacular fall day!

Okay there is a story behind this...I was lying on the ground taking this picture and then all of a sudden all these squirrels came up to us & they were really friendly. Now I am not one who would normally try to feed a wild squirrel, but these little guys were too cute! Needless to say I had to grab a shot to rememer our little friends of the day!

I always seem to find myself wishing I had a small camera to carry around and capture some of the beautiful things I see as I travel though my day. So when I got my new Blackberry (aka CRACKBERRY!!) I was excited to have a 2MP camera at my disposal. (Yea, I know there are A LOT of wonderful 10-12MP point and shoot camera's out there, but that is just one more thing I have to try to remember to bring with me. For all of you out there who know me well, you understand why this would be a problem!!)

That is right, last week I was in Bermuda! We took a cruise ship out of Boston, two days at sea, three days in Bermuda, and then two days at sea back to Boston. It was my first cruise and I would defiantly do it again. The beaches were beautiful and the sunsets colorful! On to the pictures!

***Interesting Bermuda fact or fiction*** All the bikes in Bermuda look like this! HA! Just kidding... but seriously they have a law in Bermuda, only one car per household, so a lot of Bermudians have MOPEDS or as Bostonians like to call them Vespas.

Northern Adventure

At the end of July (yes, I am just now blogging images from July, this is how CRAZY BUSY my life is right now!!!) me and my family went to Bar Harbor, ME to celebrate my Mom's birthday. I love it there! We went on a light house tour, drank some (rather a lot) of locally brewed beer, and best of all it gave me a change to take some pictures (or rather portraits) of my family. This weekend was a wedding photographer's dream! I flew down to Baltimore, Maryland to photograph Katie & Russell's wedding and they couldn't of had a more perfect day! Katie & Russell have been together for 9 years and their love for each other shined through every image. The reception was help at the Howard County Conservancy, which provided a romantic backdrop for all of the pictures with rolling hills, fields of hay, flowers....just take a look at these pictures, you will see what I mean!

Lexi & Simon were married 2 years ago this June & yesterday Lexi slipped back into her wedding dress to take some "Trash the Dress" pictures...a phenomenon that has struck the wedding scene like wildfire. Once the anxiety of the wedding day is over, newlyweds find themselves climbing trees, swimming in the ocean, and rolling around in the grass, all for the sake of a beautiful picture! Every once and a while, as I spend time with friends or family, something magical happens. It is almost like some sort of mythical photo God swoops in and whispers in my ear, "are you looking?". Some call photography stealing, contrived, or even toss it aside as if it is not worthy of being classified as art. To me, life it art. Our everyday moments with each other, or nature, is what makes this world so beautiful. Sometime, you just need to stop and take a look for yourself, and if you are lucky enough you will have a means of capturing that moment forever.

I first met the Gron's when photographing their nephew's Bar Mitzvah. When they asked me to photograph their daughter's event, I was thrilled. Such a welcoming and loving family, made photographing their event a breeze!
